I would like to do an animation of something natural and organic.  That could be a flower blooming, a butterfly or bird flying, or a living landscape (water running, trees moving, ext)
As for an issue,  I wouldn't mind covering environmental issues and women's issues.

Project 1 (Photoshop)

For my project I decided to focus on a greenhouse on campus that is not in use and is being used for storage instead.  Personally I think it is a waist of space and resources, and I chose that as my issue for this project.

My first postcard "The More The Merrier."  I used repetition to try and convey my thought that we could use more greenhouses/green spaces.  I also used repetition to allude to the fact that we may need more air conditioning units in the future because of global temperature increases.

My second postcard focuses on how I see the space as cut off.  I replaced the windows with cement to give it a closed feeling.  I also chose a bright color and discrete texture to make it a little unsettling.  I also chose this color because it reminds me of ultraviolet light which is used to grow plants indoors.

For my final postcard I chose to show what could be.  Though this greenhouse would be better used for food production, it was easier to fill it with flowers.  I decided to make the colors faded to show it is an idea and not a reality.  Though I hope that one day in the future we can use it for education and food production instead of storage. This image is my edited version, I will post my original bellow my concept map.

Problem Posing Assignment

Problem Posing Assignment Through (Re)Construction of a Place

Chosen Place:Greenhouse No longer in use On GVSU Campus

Define Your Chosen Place: Old Greenhouse that is fairly large and is now being used for storage.

Define Your Problem: It is a waste of valuable space as it currently sits.

What it is: Expanding a question you have about the place

  • Why is it not in use?
  • Why is it now a storage shed?
  • Why can't we use it to grow food for students?
Why is this a genuine question or problem for you?
  • This space could be used to benefit and teach others, it seems like a big waist to me.
Why is the question or problem likely to be relevant to others?
  •  Proper use of this facility could benefit the whole GVSU community.
Why does the questions or problem matter in regards to significant issues related to our understanding of the chosen place?

  • It draws into question the use of the space
Why is the question or problem important? why should this problem be solved, and how could this problem be solved?
  • It is a waste of valuable space.  If it were used to produce fresh fruits and vegies we could provide fresh food to students and staff in need.  We could also educate people on gardening.
